DSC-1A-POLS 101: Introduction to Political Theory
Course Objectives:
To introduce students to fundamental concepts and theories in political thought, covering both traditional and contemporary approaches.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Students will be able to understand and articulate key political theories and concepts from both classical and modern perspectives.
- Students will critically assess and compare various political theories and their relevance to contemporary political issues.
- Students will apply political theories to analyse current political events and debates.
- Students will develop the ability to construct well-reasoned arguments and engage in thoughtful discussions about political theory.
DSC-1B-POLS 102: Indian Government and Politics
Course Objectives:
The purpose of this course is to help students understand the structure and institutions of the Indian state as established by the Constitution of India.
Course Learning Outcome
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of the state structure and key institutions defined by the Indian Constitution.
- Analyze the functions and roles of various government branches and political institutions within the Indian political system.
- Apply knowledge of the Constitution to evaluate and interpret contemporary issues in Indian politics.
- Assess the impact of political processes and institutional arrangements on governance and public policy in India.

DSC-1C-POLS 201: Comparative Government and Politics
Course Objective:
To introduce students to the fundamental concepts, methods, and scope of comparative politics, and to explore various approaches to the field, highlighting their advantages and limitations
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Students will gain an understanding of the structure and function of political institutions from a comparative perspective.
- Students will become familiar with the workings of key political systems globally, including those of the UK, USA, Canada, and China.
- Students will grasp the dynamics of party systems within a comparative framework.
DSC-1D-POLS 202: Introduction to International Relations
Course Objective:
The course aims to deepen students’ knowledge of International Politics and equip them with theoretical tools to understand and assess contemporary developments in international relations.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of both historical processes and contemporary practices in International Relations.
- Grasp the foundational theories, concepts, and approaches within the field of International Relations.
- Students will be equipped to transcend Eurocentric views of International Relations and consider emerging centres of power, including India.
SEC-I-POLS 203: Legislative Support
Course Objective:
This course will introduce students to the legislative process in India at both the national and state levels, and enhance their understanding of Panchayati Raj institutions and their significance for our democracy.
Course Learning Outcomes:
- Comprehend the structure and functions of law-making bodies in India at both national and state levels.
- Understand the workings of grass-roots democracy in India.
- Gain basic knowledge of various legislative documents, with a focus on the Budget Document.
SEC-2-POLS 204: Public Opinion and Survey Research
Course Objective:
This course will introduce the students various principles and practices of public opinion. It will familiarize them with methods of social research both qualitative as well as quantitative.
Course Learning Outcomes:
After completing the course, students would be able to:
- Recognize the significance and role of public opinion in a democratic society.
- Develop basic skills to measure public opinion effectively.
- Learn scientific research methods, including sampling, surveys, interviews, and questionnaire design.

Course Objective:
The objective of this course is to acquaint students with the works and political thought of major thinkers from both Western and Indian traditions.
