General Admission Rules

  • Admission will be made on the recommendation of admission committee
  • Admission will be strictly on fulfillment of eligibility conditions.
  • A candidate seeking admission has to be present at the time of admission and should be accompanied by his/her parents/guardian.
  • A candidate must produce original certificates at the time of admission.
  • A candidate having a gap of one or more years in their studies will have to submit an affidavit/ self-declaration explaining the reasons.
  • Girl students seeking admission in any class must bring an attested copy of HP Bonafide certificate to avail them of fee concession (tuition fee only).
  • Students seeking exemption from tuition fee for disability must attach an attested copy 40% disability certificate.
  • Those candidates who have passed their 10+2 examination from other than Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education must produce migration certificates in original.
  • If the student gets admission by furnishing incorrect information or by concealing the facts, his/her admission will be cancelled on detection of such fault by the College/ University.
  • In spite of the eligibility for admission, the Principal can refuse admission if the conduct of the student has not been up to the mark during previous years.
  • The Principal reserves the right to reject or cancel the admission of any student without assigning any reason(s) or explanations if situation warrants so.

Admission Procedure

  • Students can get the Brochure–cum–application form/prospectus from college office after paying the fixed price.
  • Every candidate seeking admission to any class has to apply on the prescribed form available in the college prospectus.
  • The application form is to be filled up neatly by the applicant in his/her own handwriting carefully after reading all rules, eligibility conditions.
  • It is mandatory for all the applicant to bring his/her mother/father/guardian with him/ her at the time of admission. (Guardian means only blood relation). He/ She should not be a student of this college. No students of this college should sign in the place of parent/ guardian of any applicant otherwise none of the two will be admitted in the college.)
  • The sequence in which certificates are to be attached is given in the admission form.
  • Entrant himself/herself will have to appear before the admission committee with the original documents for admission and that admission will be done on the recommendation of the authorized admission committee.
  • No such candidate will be admitted to the college whose conduct is not found satisfactory in previous year.
  • The student, who is rusticated or expelled will not be given admission in any recognized college without the permission of the vice–chancellor.
  • In the end, the form will be presented to the admission committee for verification and approval and finally before the Principal.

Eligibility for Admission to B.A. and B.Com.-Ist Year

  • Only those students will be considered for admission to B.A. and B.Com. who have passed 10+2 examination.
  • No admission will be allowed to the students with compartment at 10+2 level as per the decision of the Hon’ble High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Candidates must have secured minimum 33% at 10+2 level to get admission to B.A. course
  • Candidate must have secured minimum 45% at 10+2 level to get admission to B.Com. Course. In case of girls students only 40% marks is required and students belonging SC/ST category with 40% at the 10+2 level are eligible for the admission to B.Com. course.
  • Those candidates who haven’t studied Commerce subjects at 10+2 level and still want to seek admission to B.Com. Course, in that case only those students who have studied Mathematics/ Economics as compulsory subjects with 45% will be considered for the admission to B.Com.

Age Limit and Relaxation

  • Upper age limit for admission to B.A., B.Com. is 23 for Boys and 25 for Girls as on 1st July, 2024.
  • Age relaxation of 3 years is allowed for SC/ST candidates.
  • The Vice- Chancellor, HPU may, in exceptional cases/ Circumstances (to be recorded in writing) give relaxation in age up to a maximum of six months to any candidate. All such cases of age relaxation of up to six months may be granted admission provisionally by the Principal and a consolidate list of all such cases will be sent for approval of the Vice- Chancellor by 31st October of every academic year.
  • Relaxation in upper age limit is also available to physically disabled candidates.

Required Documents

The completed admission form must be submitted along with the following documents:-

  • Matriculation certificate for verification of Date of Birth.
  • 10+2 Mark Sheet
  • Two copies of passport size photographs.
  • Character certificate in original from the Head of the Institution last attended or a character certificate issued by SDM/ Executive Magistrate in the case of private candidates. The Character certificate should have been issued within the last 6 months on the day of submission of admission form.
  • Candidates who have passed +2 from Boards other then H.P. Board of school Education / ICSE/CBSE must submit equivalent eligibility certificate from H.P. Board/ University.
  • Original Migration certificate from school Boards other then H.P. Board should also be submitted. Migration Certificate in original is to be enclosed with the H.P University enrolment form.
  • Students of B.A/B.Com 1st year are required to attach one copy each of Matriculation & +2 certificate with the enrolment form.
  • Certificate of SC/ST from Magistrate class I for those seeking relaxation in age/marks/fee concession.
  • Any gap (latest) in the academic career of an applicant must be supported by documentary evidence/ affidavits as the proof of his/her activities during the period of gap. If the gap is 3 yrs or more the candidate will not be admitted.
  • Certificate of Bonafide Himachali (for girl’s students who belongs to H.P.)

Re-Admission

  • Re-admission of Student whose name are struck off, the name of the students who absent themselves for ten days continuously from any class without proper leave shall be struck off the college roles. However, the Principal in his/her discretion may re-admit such students on payment of the re-admission fee along with a fine (to be decided by the Principal).
  • The student whose name is struck off the college roles due to shortage of attendance shall have to seek re-admission within four days of the name being struck off, falling which he/ she will not be eligible for re-admission. Parent/ Guardian of the candidate must accompany such candidates. They will assume responsibility for the student’s regularity in classes in the remaining period of the academic session.
  • Any Student whose name is struck off for the second time in a year will not be eligible for re-admission accepts in exceptional circumstances.

Instructions for the selection of subjects in B.A. 1st year

  1. Every student have to study at least 8 subjects in B.A 1st year in which students have to select two DSC courses, two compulsory language courses and two ability enhancement compulsory courses (AECC).
  2. Every student have to select two DSC courses and have to study two courses from each DSC out of the following subjects:-
    • English
    • Hindi
    • History
    • Political Science
    • Sociology
    • Music(V)

    Note:- A student seeking admission in B.A. 1st year cannot choose two language courses as DSC.

  3. The compulsory language courses for the B.A./B.Com 1st year will be English and Hindi.
  4. The combination of AECC will be as follows:-

  5. The End term examination consonance with existing RUSA provisions i.e. 70% in theory and 30 % in CCA/IA for Arts and Commerce where practical are not involved. For determining CCA following procedure shall be applicable:-
    1. 5 marks for attendance
    2. 5 marks for class test to be taken on completion of 40% syllabus by the class teacher.
    3. 10 marks for house test to be taken on completion of 75% of syllabus.
    4. 10 marks for assignments, tutorials, general behaviour of student.
  6. The minimum passing marks will be 40% in aggregate. However 35% each in internal assessment and final examinations will be compulsory. A candidate failing in either one or two subjects will be given compartment in that subject and will be eligible for promotion to the next class. He/she will have to appear in the subjects got the compartment and there will be two chances for each (one at supplementary stage and other at annual stage.)
  7. A candidate failing in three or more subjects will be treated as fail in that year and has to repeat the entire year.
