Background

The Red Ribbon Club (RRC) is a movement in India's schools and colleges to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, and drunk driving. The red ribbon is a symbol of solidarity for people living with HIV/AIDS, and of awareness and prevention.

  • Red like Love, as a symbol of passion and tolerance for those affected.
  • Red like Blood, representing the pain caused by many people who have of AIDS.
  • Red like the anger about the helplessness about which we are facing for a disease for which there is still no cure.
  • Red is a sign of warning not to carelessly ignore one of the biggest problems of our time.

The Red Ribbon foundation is an organization founded in 1993 whose main purpose is the education about prevention of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus or HIV, Acquired Deficiency Syndrome Related Complex, ARC and AIDS.

Objectives:

  • Educating youth: The RRC provides information on HIV/AIDS, sexuality, and other related issues. It also aims to eliminate myths and misconceptions.
  • Developing life skills: The RRC helps students develop skills like communication, self-protection, negotiation, and care and support.
  • Increasing access to healthcare: The RRC helps youth access healthcare services related to HIV/AIDS, drug use, and STIs.
  • Promoting blood donation: The RRC organizes blood donation camps and encourages voluntary blood donation.
  • Reducing stigma: The RRC aims to reduce stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV/AIDS
  • Preparing peer educators: The RRC trains youth to be peer educators who can spread positive health messages.

Functioning of the Club:

Increase youths' access to health care services related to STI / HIV/AIDS/drug use. Create linkages between youth and governmental, non - governmental agencies and CBOs to access safer and responsible healthy behavior. It envisages to instill charity mind among all the students to extend their able help towards developing healthy life styles, donating blood to all the needy by promotion of Regular voluntary blood donation. Every year the college observes World AIDS Day on 1st December, to enlighten the students about the preventive measures and protection against the spread of HIV and AIDS. Various events are conducted such as power point presentations, poster making and slogan writing competitions to make students aware about HIV and AIDS.
