Background
National Green Corps (NGC) is a programme launched by Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Govt. of India (MOEF & CC, GoI,) for Schools in H.P. in the year 2001 to inculcate environmental awareness among school/college children and to involve them for carrying out environment related activities through Eco-Clubs. The ECO Club is an environmental initiative established in educational institutions with the aim of promoting awareness and proactive engagement on environmental issues. It was created to address growing concerns about environmental degradation and to encourage sustainable practices among students and communities. The club serves as a platform for students to learn about critical environmental challenges such as pollution, climate change, deforestation, and biodiversity loss. Through practical activities and campaigns, ECO Clubs aim to build a sense of responsibility and Custodianship for the environment, encouraging individuals to take action for a healthier, more sustainable planet.
At Government College Kumarsain, an ECO Club is established annually, with every student automatically becoming a member. This approach ensures that environmental awareness and responsibility are integrated into the student experience, promoting collective participation in eco-friendly initiatives. The club aims to engage all students in activities like tree plantation drives, clean-up campaigns, and workshops, nurturing a campus-wide culture of sustainability. By making each student a member, the college emphasizes the importance of environmental care and provides opportunities for hands-on learning and active involvement in green practices.
Objectives of ECO Club
Structure of ECO Club
At Government College Kumarsain, the ECO Club is structured with the Principal serving as the head, overseeing all activities of the club. The Principal appoints a member of the teaching staff as the coordinator, who is responsible for managing and organizing the club’s initiatives. Every student in the college is automatically a member of the ECO Club, ensuring widespread participation in its environmental activities and programs. This structure promotes active engagement from both faculty and students in promoting environmental awareness and sustainability.
Functioning of ECO Club
The ECO Club at Government College Kumarsain is committed to promote environmental awareness and action among students and the community. Each year, the club organizes a variety of activities to achieve these goals. Plantation drives are a key initiative, with students actively participating in planting trees on and around the campus to contribute to afforestation and enhance local greenery. Cleanliness campaigns are also conducted regularly, aiming to maintain hygiene and promote environmental responsibility in public spaces. Through these activities, the ECO Club engages students in hands-on environmental conservation efforts and cultivates a culture of environmental advocacy.
